The crystal structure of the title compound, C(7)H(10)NO(+)·Cl(-), was synthesized by the reaction of 4-methoxy-aniline and hydro-chloric acid. In the crystal structure, the ions are involved in inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds.

Strong N-H⋯Br and N-H⋯(Br,Br) hydrogen bonding contributes to the stability of the crystal structure and links the cations and anions into a three-dimensional network.

A two-dimensional network of bifurcated N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generates corrugated layers in the bc plane.
